When I save an illustrator file as PDF, I get file sizes between 50-100 MB. I used to do manage to get around 10MB file size whilst maintaining the quality.

Could someone argue with me what could be the reason for this file size and in what manner I can manage to create around 10MB pdf's?

Many thanks

I'd start by going to the Symbols palette, select the right facing fly-out arrow, and click "Select all unused", then drag the selected swatches to the trashcan at the bottom of the palette. Do the same with the Graphic Styles, Brushes and Swatches palettes. Then save your document and see how much space you've saved. All of the info for these palettes is saved in the document, so if you don't need it, why save it?

The acrobat default pdf setting is for NO downsampling. This leaves the resulting pdf quite large. When you get the pdf window, try using "Press" and see what happens.

If you have Acorbat full, you can open the pdf in that and select Reduce File Size in the File menu. This remoses extraneous information in the and can result in a much smaller file.
