I've got windows 95 and 98 machines located around the world. I'm using EPO 3.0 and I've only got one 98 computer (in singapore) where the agent updated and reported back to the server.

I've updated DCOM and installed VCREDIST.EXE but it don't wanna work. Are there other things that need to be done?

Anyone know a secret to making XP Home work?

re: W9x machine & ePO 3.0 agent.

Have you made sure that the machines in question have file sharing enabled?

The test computers I was using all had file/print sharing turned on.

Ok, I went through a step by step setup from McAfee on four w95 computers.

1) enabled file sharing

2) Setup user access control to pull a list of names from the domain the epo server is in. (Same as them).

3) Enabled others to see the resources on the computer.

Is there anyone here who has the agent working on W95 computers and if so, what did you do different?

Oh, yeah, the clients have remote administration enabled.

The client shows to install whether it's through the console or manually.

It doesn't report back to the EPO Server.

you can only life comfortable with epo 3.0 ina domain setup.

I have several nt5, nt4, win98 and win95, i have a logon script that install agent on any system without agent after test the OS on the said system.

Been there, done that - got the T-shirt.

Turned out the problem was some sort of corruption on the W95/W98 install.

The steps to correct:

1) Locate the Sitelist.XML file from the epo server common framework directory and copy into the root of the C: drive.

2) Locate the common framework directory and run
FRMINST.EXE /remove=agent.

3) Run framepkg.exe /install=agent /siteinfo=c:\sitelist.xml

Along with turning file sharing on, that took care of the problem.
