I have heard alot of discussions with DID, DNIS, ANIS, VDN, PSTN, etc. Are these all the same but just different terminologies depeneding on if you are Bell, Sprint, Tellus, AT&T, MCI or whom ever or is there more to it?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have a quarter, I need to make a phone call?

No, these are all different. I'd suggest you pick up a copy of Newton's Telecom Encyclopedia. It's a great resource - I can't count the number of times I've looked terms up in it.

Thanks I actually will do that.

Here are the ones I recognize:

DID - Direct Inward Dial -
You can purchase DID lines from your telco and when assigned to extensions, callers can reach your employees by calling a designated telephone number vs. going through an auto attendant or operator.

DNIS - Not sure what the anagram is

DNIS digits are what is sent by your provider when a toll free is called. So if I call 1885551212, you specify what DNIS digits the phone company should call through your dedicated circuit. Usually the DNIS is the destination extension in your switch.

VDN - Vector Directory Number

A VDN is basically how you assign an extension to a Vector in your Definity / Communications Manager.

PSTN - Public Service Switched Network. In other words the traditional phone network. POTS is related - Plain Old Telephone Service.
