What's the best for a laptop: Pentium M or 4?

I don't really know anything about hardwares.
I m interested in buying a new laptop computer, but I don't know if I should look for a pentium 4 or M.
I have one pentium M that is approximately 1.3 Ghz and one other that is a Pentium 4 3 Ghz or a bit more.
It appears that the pentium 4 laptop is making much more noise (the noise is the fan... i guess... :D ) than the pentium M. And I was wondering if it has anything to do with the processor...
thanks in advance

There's no moving parts in a processor/CPU. Noise would be coming from the CPU fan, hard drive, or CD drive.

M is for Mobile. Pentium M isn't quite as speedy as a Pentium 4 but it is much better for battery life. Since the voltages are lower the Pentium M should generate less heat.

What i thought. :D

thanks

If you plan on being mobile a lot with the laptop, stay away from a straight P4 which has poor battery life. The P4 M version runs at full throttle when you need it most, but then "steps down" to a slower speed to produce less heat and waste less battery. The Centrino version is even more efficient, but is the slowest overall of the 3.

If the laptop will remain stationary most of the time, then it's a tossup. The straight P4 would probably be the better choice here, since bulkiness, heat, and battery life are not as much of a factor.
