This is my first time using 2K server and Exchange.
When installing Exchange 2K on my Win2K Server, which is the Primary Domain controller, I get a warning:
"Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot [be installed]
- The NNTP component of IIS is not installed
My question is this:
Does Exch2K need IIS to enable the feature that allows shared calendars in Outlook?
The reason I'm trying Exchange is to used shared calendars in Outlook. I've tried NetFolders to share an Outlook calendar, but it doesn't support IMAP4, only POP3 or MS Mail.
I hope that I do not have to run IIS to run exchange. In fact, the only reason it's installed on my test server is because I'm testing my old site's DB functionality.
I planned on doing a fresh Win2K server install on my Web and File/Print servers. I was going to run Exchange on a third box, but now it seems like it has to be on the Domain Controller.
So another question I have is:
If I have 3 servers in my network; A 2K member server running IIS for a public website, A 2K member server running SQL2K and a 2K server "Domain Controller/Active Directory Master"/File/Print Server - Which server do I have to install on? The one running AD/The PDC?
Considering I have a separate IIS server already, do I need IIS installed on the box that Exchange runs on? Please note that I do not run SMTP or NNTP on this IIS server.
Thanks for any info. I've looked in the FAQ's here, on MS's site and could not find a simple requirements list that actually listed what server technologies are required to run what it takes to allow shared clanedars in MS Outlook.
The only requirements page I've found was this:
Thanks for the help! I'm an Exchange newbie.
