When Microsoft makes up new words, I have a hard time finding the definitions. What would a Provider be as in a Database Providor? Would it just be the SQLConnection object, or the driver that you use in a DSN (ODBC) connection or what?

Thanks

A little bit of both.

A Provider is the software driver that gives you database access. A Provider can be everything you need to connect, like the SqlClient, or it can require additional layers beneath it, like the Oracle provider does (it needs the Oracle Client library to provide the OCI layer).
