What's an IDES SAP system

MiniSAP is to R/3 IDES, what Notepad is to MS Word.
MiniSAP is an extremely smaller version of R/3. It gives you some insight into the capabilities of SAP R/3.
R/3 IDES (Internet Demonstration and Evaluation System) is a normal R/3 but with lots of DEMO data.
So if youre looking to learn the IDES version will be good because it already has data in it you can experiment with as opposed to a blank installation of SAP R/3. (Same thing goes for SAP BW & SAB BW IDES.
