Hi,

I have an office with 3 users which was previously set up years ago by someone else and the phone system has packed up.
The grey box on the wall has is plain apart from a circular BT logo in the centre and there is no model information. The handsets are BT branded T7316Es. I'm guessing this is a therefore a Norstar system of some sort.

I need to supply a new system as cheap as possible that will never have to cope with more than 3 analogue lines with 5 users and basic functions such as call hold/transfer and voicemail. The old handsets are all in working order so to keep the cost down I'd like re-use them.

Can anyone tell me if there are any other systems out there that are compatible with these handsets apart from the Norstar system?

Many thanks

It's a long story. Way back in the "good" old days, probably 15 to 20 years ago now. BT was looking to team up with a Global supplier. Nortel was chosen and we started selling the kit in the UK under an agreement that prevented anyone else other than a company called Kingston.

All the Norstar versions that we did were sold as bespoked software for the UK market starting with the good old 6+16 compact system, then uping the range to the Modular 8+24 before ISDN cards came out to be selling the Compact & Modular plus systems. Again all had their own level of software that was different to everyone else and this also restricted people from playing with "RAD's", because the Compact Plus versions used a higher security level of password that included letters, lower and upper case and numbers etc.

Some of use found a trick to downgrade a "RAD" by loading in your FastRad upgrade software and then using the NRU software so that we only needed to use numbers as a password.

All this changed when BCM came out as it took over and killed off Norstar because BT was pushing ISDN 30 out. Startalk never really took off either and BCM did all of that.

All the best
