Hi,

I've been tasked to come up with a network management and monitoring tool. At the momemnt since we are a HP shop, I am using JetAdmin and Insight Manager 5 to monitor our servers. However this HP centric view does not allow us to adequately monitor and manage non-HP devices such as our switches and applications such as Exchange Servers, Oracle Databases, etc

Assuming Cost was not an issue (which in a way it is not), what SNMP management tool would you recommend that would enable us to control and monitor any SNMP capable device or application.

I have heard of HP Openview but have not used or evaluated it as yet.

Thanks
M

There's not going to be one.

Start evaluating frameworks like Openview and Unicenter. Manufacturers of servers and equipment make plugins for that, like CiscoWorks for Cisco equipment. Get a list of all your equipment and find out what each manufacturer has for monitoring. Then you can find out what framework works best, or if you even need one.

Having been using ScienceLogic EM7 for a couple of months now I would happily recommend looking at that as a cheaper/faster to deploy alternative to the framework products. It has a handy integrated ticketing system too if you need that.
