Hello all,

I just installed SIP on an IP406V2 and all works good so far.
Compared to a PRI T1, can we control outcalling CID?
What are the pros and cons to SIP compared to PRI.
On a PRI T1, you can use a User shortcode to send your DID number out over the T1.
Thanks

CLI can be controlled using the oging SIP URI. It depends on the ITSP in the same way it depend on the Telco with standard stuff.

I have done it with ours and the CLI we send out isn't even part of our SIP DDI range!! It's on our PRI DDI's.

The biggest pro for SIP in the UK seems to be number portability. BT are a real pain in the srse if a customer moves premises more than 5 yards!!! With SIP it can go anywhere in the country. The other advantage is price. It is cheaper than PRI and call rates are generally lower.

It's still a way off the reliability of PRI/BRI/PSTN and I'm still not sure I can trust it. having said that, we use it for all our outcalling and it has only gone down once in 14 months, but that was for 2 weeks!!!!!

Thanks Jamie77,

My SIP provider person was out of down today and I could not ask him any questions.
I found out that it is hit and miss when programing SIP on an ip office. The documentation was very technical and did not explain SIP emplemention very well "as uaual in avaya documents". Most everything is trial and error.

I will have to play around with different setting to understand how to do this.
Thanks again for the info.

In my SIP Line I have the Local URI set the "Use User Data". This will put a SIP tab against each user. I have put out o/g CLI in there for each user. It is in full UK number format 01132009000 in our case.

Do you have a web portal for your ITSP?? We have for both of ours and CLI settings are prohgrammable by us for SIP lines on our account.

No on the Web portal.
Do you have a SIP line created for each DID number?
Thanks

No, just add a new sip URI in the same SIP line and put in the external number in the Local URI, Contact and in the Display name.

If you put Anonymous in the display name of the URI, then it won't send CLI.

Got the outgoing CID to work beutifully.
I set up channel 1 of the SIP URI to User data on all three feilds.
Then on channel 2 of the SIP URI I got my first DID number in all three fields
Channel 3 the next DID number in all three feilds etc.
Total of 10 DID numbers on 1 SIP trunk
Total of 2 SIP License. (Only 2 calls out or 2 calls in at a time)

You ould try to set the Max calls per channel to 10.

You can find this in the Line > Sip Line > URI tab > double click the usi and on the bottem you see Max calls per channel.

I beleive talk paths are determined by the number of sip license you have bought.

I think it's not the license, we have running an IPO with 1 license and it's set to 30 channels. They have 50 phones or so.
So in your case it would be the provider who doesn't let you dial more then 2.

1 license and 30 channels??? I thought SIP licenses were for cuncurrent calls!!!

You can set to what ever you want but I thought it would crap out once license limit has been reached.

You get a busy signal on incoming calls when you run out of instances.

What about o/g???? Are you saying SIP licenses are only used up on i/c calls??? I though it was either

Outgoing calls get dead air (waiting for line)when trying to call out when no paths are available.

That's what I thought. the couple we have done I've licensed for concurent i/c + o/g

Bas makes it sound like he has 1 lic and 30 calls!!

You can buy 1 license with 20 instances etc. Thats probably what he's talking about.

You're right Jamie/TheDoz, 1 lic and 30 instances. I was wrong i thought they called it channels instead of instances.

While were on the subject of SIP....!!

1) Does anyone know if there are any planns in the next firmware to add the "Prefix" field to allow us to use redial and phonebook etc??? Cos I have to prefix all of my speed dials with a 9 so that incomming CLI does not show

2) Is there any way to get SIP to play the message rather than show "Waiting for Line" when you get an exchange message?

ta

Steve

I believe a feature request for Prefix was put to Avaya last year by PG I think.
