i know a+ certification doesnt really mean anything and im taking my 202-602 exam tomorrow and i think i will pass. im wondering what should i get after this. should i go for MCSE because it seams alot recomond that or should i do network + or server +? please admin dont delete this post.
i know people will say u need experience but u cant get experience unless u get certified.

thanks

khakis way better than jeans so long as they don't have holes... and preferably a button up shirt or a nice polo w/o any designs on it.

I would recommend working on getting your net+ and really just for the fact that you will know how a network works. Before I got into the CCNA area, I honestly never worked on a network other than an unmanaged switch, cabling, and a linksys router. I knew that cable could only go 100meters (300~ feet), and keep it away from electricity. But never knew the WHYs, and then I got into the CCNA and eventually took the Net+ to 'have' it and learned about the OSI model. From there it helps you troubleshoot so many different issues, whether its the cabling, to the switch, to the router, to the actual PC application having problems.

But good luck on those jobs!!! Trust me if you get in with Best Buy and their geek squad, you will get more than you bargained for on pc work =)

hey guys. whats the difference between comptia i-Net+ and network+ certification and which one did u mean dallasBPF

saiedahadi1,

Yes, a nice pair of khakis and a clean button shirt or polo like Dallas said - the key no matter what you wear is that you look good, clean and well groomed!!! Don't forget your shoes - they have got to be clean and neat and should be polished. No wierd jewlery, piercings, "blue hair" etc. you can be an individual at school - NOT WORK :)

Remember - it is Yes sir and No sir or yes mam and no mam not yea or nah - you would be shocked how people come in looking for jobs - hey dude, yo, got a job ?? This guy had ripped jeans, a tee shirt with who knows what on it and green spiked hair, he also had his skate board under his arm. If you are trying to get a job at a music store or a "head" shop - OK but not Best Buy, Office Depot or Verizon :)

As far as FIOS - trust me they would not expect you to be a fiber tech, if they like you, they will train you - A+ will tell them that you know enough about computers to do what they need you to do!!! REMEMBER - ALL THEY CAN DO IS SAY NO !!!!!

At 19 - do not worry if you are quallified - just keep asking about jobs - you are a college student working his way through college - who knows you might find something you like and find yourself there 30 years later but just keep looking and asking EVERYONE!!

I would also suggest that you go to Borders or Barnes and Noble and read some books about interviewing, "dress for success" etc. - I did not say buy the books - just get a cup of coffee and sit down and read the books for tips, tricks and hints!!! You will see following up interviews with a letter thanking them and things like that - can NEVER hurt!!!

As far as a place like Best Buy or Office Depot and places like that - TAKE ANYTHING they offer to get in the door - you can always move to the "Geek Squad" or a better position once on the inside!!! I had a friend that was bagging at Publix Super Market, 3 years later he was a programmer for them in the corporate office making $25-$35 an hour!!! They paid most of his schooling!!!

Good luck!!

if u ever need anything ill try my best to help u guys.
thanks

saiedahadi1,

Not sure where you are seeing "comptia i-Net+"

Here are all the certs by CompTIA -

CompTIA Network+ Certification

Earning a CompTIA Network+ certification demonstrates that a candidate can describe the features and functions of networking components, and possesses the knowledge and skills needed to install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols and services. The exam tests technical ability in the areas of media and topologies, protocols and standards, network implementation and network support.

I think they "had" an Internet cert called Internet + but they don't have this any longer!!
