What next now that I have the 8400b Data Mod

Hello,
I have just gotten the 8400b data mod but dont know how to hook it up. I hook it up like a regular modem and tell it that its a hayes 2400 smartmodem. But nothing happens. What do I do next to connect to the pbx so that I can do station administration and other stuff like when im on the actual terminal. Also do i need any other special software to do this. I have everything hooked up correctly but just done know how to get it to work.All I want to is to do administration from my desktop rather than running upstairs and back downstairs.

You can place that datamodule behind your station.
When you do that than it use the same port off your station.
If your station number is for example 1234 do than change station 1234.
On the first field you have the option "Data Option" choose for data module.
When you choose data module you get one extra page.
go to that extra page (last page) and give your data module an extension number, set ITC to unrestricted, fill in the name, cos and cor and your done.

Now remove your patch cable from your station and put it into the power suply.
From your power suply to the data module and from the data module to your phone again.

you must know the netcon number(SCC)or system-port number(MCC) off the switch to connect with.
These number should be into an huntgroup (remote maintenance group or something)
Now you can connect the switch with ASA,DSA,Teranova or Procomm for example.

If you still can't connect take an look into the data module with the command AT&V, you must have S24=1 if i'm right otherwise change that to S24=0 it should be one off them.

Ok, I got to the point where I setted up my extension and added the feature data mod in my stations options. Now how would i go about connecting it. I have procomm but dont know how to set it up. I have the netcom numbers or extension you can say but from here I cant make it to talk to the pbx or receive the data from the pbx. How should i go about setting it up now that everything is pretty much set up just the configuration of the modem to the pbx. Really need this to work. Thanks so much to anyone who can help me......

I am not farmiliar with procom I use DSA as far as I know procom is a telnet program correct? if so all you need to do is open a terminal conection between your desktop and the definity. on the com port that the data mod is connected to.

I am trying to remember do you have r9? If I remember correctly you did. you need to set up your clan card to communicate with the switch. I do not currently have access to a switch and the exact process for doing this has slipped my mind. however it is posted somewhere in a posting for july or august. José

DSA=Definity Site Administration software rite. Don't know if I have that. Where can I get a copy that will probably not have to pay from Avaya. Or will I have to pay for the DSA software if its a software which im assuming it is. Is DSA like that software that is currently on my terminal rite now where I log into my pbx system. When I started the guy that took care of the phone system had already left so I wasn't sure where he left all the software and stuff from when my company bought the system.

No, im still on R4. I looked into upgrading but it cost me an arm and a leg plus how the economy is rite now my business is kinda of in a bad shape. So can't afford to upgrade to R9 yet.

So if I was to use DSA and if I find out what it is all I have to do is load it in and install like a regular software or something. Your help on this is very appreciated. I do not want to go up to the second level just to change one little configuration on a station. Thanks so much if anyone can help me.

You can you hyperterminal or other serial software to connect like DSA does. Once the data module is connected you connect via serial port and enter atdt1600 for example or whatever the number is. Then login and enter commands.
