They dial 8+XXX-XXX-XXXX+ 7 digit code for long distance calls.

The 7 digit code. Is this an auth code, steering code? I know these are usually at the beginning of the number. Any ideas?

Could be an Auth Code that derives from LD 88. Could be access codes provided by the LD carrier.

When I prt in ld 88, I get a code saying that the data does not exist.

After dialing the LD number and before entering the code, do you get some sort of tone?

You can setup authcodes to be required pre or post call.

Definitely sounds like the codes are from the telco carrier and the not PBX.
