Hello all my parents have given me the great task of moving one of our merlin system phones from Room 1 to Room 2 in out office...

Questions
1) What kind of cable does the merlin system use?
Cat 5... Cat 3... some ancient cable ive never heard of?

2) What kind of termination does the cable use...
RJ45... RJ 11... some ancient termination ive never heard of?

3) Can this be as simple as just unplugging the phone line from the merlin system from Room 1 and plugging in a new line and run it to Room #2 and plug it into the phone?

Thanks in Advance,
Eddie

The system works with any cat 3 or better cabling.
The standard pinout would be RJ-14 -2pair for digital sets and RJ-11 for analog.
RJ-45 may be used in 568A or B as long as pins 4-5 (pair 1) and 3-6 (pair 3) are crossconnected for the stations. If you are using patch cords from the Legend to the cable field using a data type patch panel then it would just be plug and play.

What kind of merlin is it? If it is a merlin classic (206,410 or 810) you are gonna need all 4 pairs.

I just wire any and all Merlin systems with CAT5e cable - wired as straight-thru ethernet cable (568B) - same as for a computer ethernet connection. The older Merlins really need all 4 pairs. The Legend can get by with two pairs minimu(blue-white and green-white). The orange-white is not used. The brown-white would be needed to power an adjunct or DSS unit - or you can use a seperate power supply adapter.
