I'm a Cisco router Jock and I am trying to broaden my horizons (Cisco though AWESOME isnt the only router out there). I bought an ARN router and I wanna incorporate it into my network but I cant even talk to the thing. I've tried straight through, null modem and roll over cables to no avail... What cable do I need? And once I get the right cable whats the settings on Hyperterminal? (8N1 no flow control@9600?)

I imagine your problem is using Cisco and Bay in the same sentence. Seriously, A standard db-9 to db-9 cable should work for your ARN. Bay does sell a cable for the ARN which should have come with the router if you bought it new. The cable PN is 110307. The console parameters should be: 8N1 9600, Flow Control Xon/Xoff and VT100. Do you have a flash card for your router?

I tried a few straight through cables with no response... Are you positive a straight through should work? My settings for HyperTerminal are 8N1 9600 (No flow control) VT100. Yes I have a flash memory card in the router. I didnt buy the router new so I dont have a cable for it...

Change your flow control to xon/xoff! I am positive about the cable.

Well if ya wanna know what happened I believe the quote out of my mouth was "GREAT!!!" Needless to say IT WORKED!!! Now for password recovery - I believe there's some sort of jumper behind the front panel which when switched to the new setting will allow for erasing the console password... Do you know much about this?

1.Power cycle the ARN.

2.When the ARN starts cycling through Power On Diags, type Ctrl C followed by a carriage return. This will put you in diagnostic mode and you will see the following prompt:

Diag_1>

3.At this prompt, type in the following command exactly:

d/l/n:5 410000 0

This sequence will blank out the Manager password in NVRAM.

4.Type boot or power cycle the ARN. There is no longer a Manager password.

Well I did the exact procedure and I still get a Login: prompt. Is there a default login/password for these things?

Login: Manager (Upper Case "M", lower anager)
Password: Hit Enter
