No Java with XP, you need to download it from Sun.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
If Sun Java is installed, there are several ways to see it. But the easiest is to go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced. You'll see a section called Java (Sun) listed right before "Microsoft VM".
Now, some sites want Microsoft VM (Virtual Machine) enabled instead. So you would tick the option for "Java Console Enabled" under the VM section, save, close and reopen Internet Explorer.

It would be a good idea to check to see how many versions of Sun Java are installed on your machine (if any). Apparently Sun Java does not remove old versions on update. I was having some Java problems and when I looked there were 6 different versions installed. I removed them all and then re-installed from the Sun Java site and all of my Java problems went away.
