That no conventional 'console' port that you can connect to with hyperterminal. It is a Windows PPP dial up networking port to connect to via a null modem cable. The correct settings are 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, 115200 baud. but as mentioned, its PPP not plain ascii.
If you bought this new and have support on the unit, you should not need to touch the system via the serial port at all and can do everything you need via ethernet, assuming you know the IP address of the unit. If it is covered under maintenence, I strongly suggest you open a ticket to have everything you need handled by service professionals.
If its not covered by support, and its not in use, and you need to get it on the network for the first time, or configure it for a new subnet/location you can do the following, but it requires a 'null modem' cable.
Start by adding the following modem to you admin machine:
Under your control panel-> Phone and Modem options, click add, select "Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list." Click next, Under the manufacturers list select "Standard Modem Types", under models select "Communication cable between two computers".
Then add a dial up connection as follows:
Control Panel -> Network and Dial Up Connections -> Make new Connection -> Connect Directio to another computer --> Guest --> Select device "Communications between two computers(COM1)". Give it any name (CX500) and finish. The connect dialog will open, click properties, general tab, configure, set Max Speed to 11520, make sure the Enable hardware Flow control is checked. Click ok. Click the Networking tab, PPP should appear... click settings, enable LCP Extentions and Enable Software compression, click OK, TCPIP properties are to obtain IP and DNS automatical, use default gateway on remote network. Click Ok a bunch of times to save the settings.
When you 'dial' it wall ask for a username and password, ignore the domain field. clariion clariion!
