I'm curious to know if there are any useful applications for the pencil tool. This particular tool seems to be very imprecise as far as drawing curves is concerned. (yes, I know that's what the pen tool is for)

The only use I can find for the pencil tool, is to roughly "sketch" vectors, before using the pen tool to tweak the curves more precisely. This is sometimes helpful when doing a rough mock-up for client, before preceeding with precision vector work.

Do you guys have any other uses for this seemingly limited tool?

Thanks!

The pencil is great for organic shapes. Usually i use the pencil first to draw a quick sketchy version of what im trying to illustrate. When that is done i use the pen/direct select tools to fix and refine my path.

The pencil is best used with a wacom board or other pen tool, but you can ofcourse use your mouse too.

its basically a fast way to get the basic shapes down quickly.

Any other ideas on what to use the pencil tool for?
