I've been asked to configure a phone with a feature, but I was only given a description of how the feature works. The feature was described in the following way:

By pressing '9', the phone turns on the speaker phone and dials '9' to pick up an outside line.

Anyone know what the name of this feature is so I can look up how to configure it?

It's called the lazy employee button. It sound more like a Norstar feature then a PBX feature. Or maybe pretranslation. It also sounds like a way to beat the system by allowing a user to dial where ever they want with no restrictions.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

OK OK, There is such a 'feature'. It is on the 3900 series sets and you turn it on in the Options department of the phone. It might be called "Live Dialpad"

What it does is: You walk up to the idle phone, press a digit and the phone comes to life. The big time saver is you don't have to press a line or lift the handset first.

Thanks ghtrout!

It doesn't really grab a line, it just dials 9 and goes off hook on speaker phone. This has to be the most DUMB ASS LAZY feature I ever heard of. Any one that use's it should be fired.

If you've got hands free for the set how about just dialing your number and press the line key? So people must be just to stressed out to pick up the hand set. The real annoying ones have to try and use hands free with what sounds like someone tuning up a race car in the background.

Can't seem to find this feature on the 11xx series options menu. I had no problem finding it on the 39xx series options menu. Does anyone know definitively that this feature is not available on the 1140E?
