What is the limit on table names in Oracle 8.1.7?

Simple question... can anyone tell me what the limit is on table names for Oracle 8.1.7? I know that we are supposed to limit the table name to 23 characters if, in the future we would like to use Oracle replication.

But is this limit just a suggestion or is it, in fact the limit?

simple answer I can't find anything in the docs - why don't you just try it ?

The limit is supposed to be 30 (SQL Reference manual) but I'm using 9.0.1 and can only get 29!!
