I will reconfigure our TCP/IP internal. We need more than 254 host. I am going to use the subnet mask 255.255.254.0 to have 510 host. If I am using the ip address 192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0, that mean the ip network address is 192.168.0.0, the subnet mask is 255.255.254.0. Is that right?

Your available range would be 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.2.254. Network address would be 192.168.1.0.

Ash.

hello,

why dont you just have 172.16.1.1: 255.255.0.0 which would give you loads of hosts?

Just wondered really as I haven't a clue about calculating subnets, just read some where that this was a class b and could support loads of private ip's.

why would one want to borrow bits and stuff to get a subnet mask?

just curious.

cheers

You will have 510 hosts on your new network however I would go with a class b network address if you are reconfig you network.
