What is the difference of those discovery methods?

I am new to SMS.

network discovery
heatbeat discovery
AD system discovery

what is the difference? Can I discover clients without installing clients?

Network discovery gets information from snmp devices, DHCP servers, domain controllers, and client computers. It finds them and creates ddr's Careful with this one its probably a bit better in 2003.

Heartbeat is always installed and that tells sms what clients are still there and which are not(its ongoing)

Ad discovery utilizes ad to discover users, OU's, groups and computers.

Discovery methods do not install a client, but you can use them to install a client

I installed SMS.
the weird thing is:
I set the network discovery property with domain search and then set a subnet search,ie. 10.10.0.0. after a while, when i check the network discovery properties' subnet tab, there are 7-9 other subnet ids automatically added to the list,10.20.x.x,192.168.x.x,those subnet ids look like the subnets of branch offices in other states(i am new in the company,there are T1 connections). what happened to the network discovery ?

the AD system discovery pulls all objects from AD's computers container,even those do not existing or renamed,

how can i get rid of those objects that do not exist?
