Hi, i want to ask what is the difference between Router & access Router.
Thank you.

An access router is basically a router that is used to allow remote users access to the network typically through async connections.

The 2503 and 2509 are not made to be used as access servers because you can only have 1 dialup session at a time (1 aux port). The 2509 has 8 asynchronous serial ports and the 2511 has 16 asynchronous serial ports....... Both have 1 Ethernet port and 2 synchronous serial ports. This way you can have 8 or 16 simultaneous dialup connections..

Sorry routerhead but iam confused. As you say 2503 & 2509 can't be used as access servers because you can't have more than one dial up session at a time. But then you say 2509 has 8 asynchronous serial ports and you can have 8 simultanious dial up sessions. So can 2509 be used as access server or not?
Thank you very much for your responce.

An Access Router such as an AS5300 is typically used by
ISP's to allow remote users to dial in and gain Internet
access. An AS 5300 I worked on recently had 192 modems
in it, 8 T1 ports, and 4 Serial ports. Wow! Other than
this I can't help you much.

Thank you very much wfh142077.Your help is valuable for me.I work for a Telecommunication authority and i visit regularly ISP locations and i see that they use that Router
Cisco AS5300.
Thanks again all of you that help me to understand the meaning of access Router.
