What is the best way to clean a laptop screen?

I don't want to do any damage or scratch it.

OOps, I think you posted this to the wrong Forum.
(This is a firewall forum)

But since the surface of the laptop screen is actually glass you can use glass cleaner and a low lint paper towel.

But do not spray the Windex directly on the laptop, as you risk possible liquid seeping into the electronics. Spray the windex on the towel and apply the towel to the screen.

Always maintain a wet towel, and as the towel dries, rub more and more lightly to avoid any possible scratching.

Good luck,
Dana

a wire brush and petrol, you will need some matches to burn off excess fumes from the petrol.

only kidding just having a bad day and this made me laugh

Also, I'd recommend not putting your phone number in your sig - I can't imagine having any reason for someone on Tek-tips needing to call you.

Hey, folks.
I know Brian posted his question in the wrong forum, but "cut him a little slack", will ya?

Everyone is new and learning at some time. He joined the forum to get assistance, not bashing.

A little compassion would not hurt.
I think his question was legitimate.

That's
My "2 cents"

regards,
Dana

P.S. Egle, your post was quite ammusing though... :)

Notebook screens are not glass. They are a form of plastic. Touch the surface and you will see it give. Do not use anything containing alcohol or ammonia. Every tech I've ever asked says to use water.

Peter,
I'm Sorry, but I am going to have to disagree with you. There may be some laptop screens that are plastic, I do not know, but none of the Dell, Toshiba, IBM, sony laptops that we use in house over the last 4 years have had plasic displays.

I'm sure you know that glass bends. Fiber optic cables are a good example (Yes, I know there are also some fiber optic cables also made of various polymers too.)

It's most obvious that the screen is glass when a user shatters it. (and some of our users have done this)

Some of our users eat while computing and spit while talking. We have been cleaning our laptop screens with an ammonia based cleaner for years on the same computers without detrimental effects. (yes, we are one of the few companies with 3 and 4 year old laptops! :)

Please believe that although I disagree, I do not mean you any disrespect.
