I am currently running RH 8.0 for some software I am running I have to go backwards to RH 7.3 I downloaded it do I have to reformat my hard drive to load it on or is there another method to go backwards ?

Degrading would be sooooooo much more complicated than resinstalling.

How come you have to use 7.3 over 8? If the source is available, you could always compile against new libraries etc.

The source is not available

so the best method would be to fsck my HD and then do a fresh install ?

If you've backed up and data before.

However, before you do that, have you checked to see that the 7.3 rpm you are trying to install won't work on 8? Have you searched for a package of the same application that was compiled for *?

PS What is the app?

Bear in mind that the release of RH9 is near - your software may work on that if you are having problems with 8 (as are a lot of people...).
