What is Sun Alarm (LOM) Lights out Management?

the LOM facility is actually pretty cool. One of the main features it has is the ability to connect to the console via the LOM port- even if the server is powered off! (I mean not in any specific init state- It will not work if you unplug the power cord!). So for instance you can "poweroff" the machine and still be connected to the LOM port and tell it to poweron right from your console! It also does some monitoring of other things but I forget now what all it does.
