Storage Node

In simpler words, think about it as a System connected to Tape Drives and Tape Drive Libs., which can backup huge chunks of data, with a specific portion of Legato installed on that.

Dear Nandkumar,

Read on:

Data can be backed up either directly to a NetWorker Server or a NetWorker STorage Node. A storage node basically controlls storage devices such as tape drives, auto changers etc. Storage nodes communicate with the NetWorker Server for the following:

1) To get control over which client uses the storage node's device for backups.

2) Management of indexes, to track which data belongs to which client and which media contains the data. (ie, to maintain a log of activities.)

3)License management

Server and Storage node can run different operating systems, but the networker version should be the same in all of them.

In HP-UX, the following daemons should be active on the Designated Storage Node:

nsrexecd and nsrmmd.

[ nsrexecd runs on all the three- NetWorker Server, Client and Storage Node. ]

It should be the same in your AIX systems also. Not sure. ;)

Also, try to have a look of the .pdf documents, which can be found at the web site, it will help you understand things easily.

Anu

Nan,

Sorry for the delay. The daemon nsrmmd should be running in both the server and the storage node. (One of those two systems should be the server and the other should be a Storage Node.) To identify the systems, let me tell you sth abt the daemons that should be present on them.

NetWorker Server should run:
============================
nsrd,nsrexecd, nsrmmd, nsrindexd, nsrmmdbd

Client Should run:
=================
nsrexecd

Storage Node Should run:
========================
nsrexecd, nsrmmd

I assume that you are not having a NetWorker License Manager running.

Anu

Dear Anu,

i cudnt locate the process nsrmmd on the server which i suppose is a storage node. but i fount it on the legato servers. does that mean that those leagato servers are acting as astorage node?

thanks for replying

Hi

For those of you that don't know and live in England, there is really fab company in Reading called Redstor ( who run lots of different training courses in Legato and SAN management. They even certified me as a qualified user of Networker! I have a great certificate! They are really friendly and know their stuff!
