What is "MM" in a function?

I am trying to get a handle on JS but I cannot find this in any of my tutorials.
The explanation is probably very simple, but so am I.
What is the meaning of "MM"?
I have come across this in some source codes, such as Function MM_jumpMenu() or Function MM_preloadImages() but I cannot work out what the MM stands for or why it is there. Can some wise owl please relieve my anxt?

MM stands for MacroMedia.
I also would like to stress on the fact that their
