Just wondered if someone could tell me about conflict folders in the downloaded program files folder in win98.

What they are for.

Is it ok to delete them or should you only delete contents.

THanks.

This particular situation is a spyware issue.

A scan shows a file, the user can't find it in dos.

Was considering asking user to delete entire folder.

I found the ms link yesterday, but was hesitant to leap since
a) my issue wasn't game related
b) I am doing advice rather than messing with my own system.

Google on something like programfiles\conflict shows lots of hits with all kinds of file names which makes me think it might be a system folder -- but it doesn't show up on my system.

My guess is that it is one of those things that it is ok to delete and win98 will recreate it if it needs it, but I was trying to confirm that judgement somehow.

Change the name of the file and see if it is reproduced or if you get a warning message from a program that is looking for the file.
If no referances to the file on reboot then I would guess it is safe to remove.

I know the file is bad.

My question was trying to understand about the conflict.1 folder so I could decide whether to delete the entire folder or just the file inside it.
