Sorry if I've posted this inquiry in the wrong forum but I can't seem to find it anywhere else. My next course of IT elevation is to learn from the ground up the new Exchange 2007 engine and it's editions compared to Exchange 03 yet I'm seeing that the want ads are inquisitive towards "our" OCS -> Office Comm Server knowledge.

Is this more for Exchange or is it a Sharepoint ancillary component..

Thanks for any advice and sorry again if I've posted this in the wrong forum!

Its actually like MSN Messenger, AIM, or Yahoo! Messenger but its for businesses to collaberate within the enterprise. It ties into exchange, AD, sharepoint, and a few other microsoft servers and actually works pretty good.

Office Communications Server is Microsoft's version of Enterprise IM. It also can be used over a web browser, on a PDA/smart, and you can do conferencing/desktop sharing with it. You can also integrate it with your VOIP system if you have one. It is kind of a pain to setup but once it is going it's a tool your business wont be able to live without.

It ties presence information between telephone, IM, and email systems, and provides connectivity and continuity between them as well. It's WAY cool. You can contact people regardless of where they are - without having to know where they are.

Everyone,

Thank you so much for all the information, I will definately put it to work. Am waiting to hear back from a potential customer but eitherway, I'm going to read a ton of information on this topic.
