someone sent my boss a warning about jdbgmgr.exe saying that after 14 days is can cause trouble. she is freaked. i have seen this file on several different machines including 98 and XP and one XP machine which did not have it. it is labeled "Debugger Registrar for Java". What gives...

Hi glchisum,

That e-mail is a virus hoax. It warns people of a teddy bear virus that does not exist. They then try to get you to delete a windows system file, which they tell you is infected. DO NOT DELETE this file....you will have problems if you do.

If for some reason some of your users have deleted this file
follow this link for instructions on how to replace it.

Hope this helps... mot98

This file is part of Java runtime. It is needed to run java applets. It won't do no harm to your system.

Some tips to share with your voss, and others :

If you receive an email saying that if you have such or such file to delete it, AND that McAfee, Noton and all the other big names cannot detect it, you better handle it as a hoax (joke).
The more big names are on there, the bigger the lie !
Always check the net for hoaxes like that
or any other.
If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too.
Free Tip: The F1 Key does NOT destroy your PC!
