The scratch disk can be changed in Preferences > Plug-Ins & Scratch Disks. It is simply the disk that Photoshop uses for its own virtual memory, and if you have a second drive or partition, you may be able to change to that instead. Having said that, I've never seen that problem before. Is your hard drive full or anything?

Hi Blueark.

I do what you suggest and then I get a update from Adobe,
it looks like it´s Win XP who is the problem when you run
PS 7,0. I have just get a new hdd and after that was installed
the problem started. Now it looks like it work so I have to
keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help.

a computer locking up in XP or win2k is a sign of a hardware failure. those os's are "process isolated". designed so that an application can't bring down the system.

that makes sense. maybe you fried something. did you use static protection when installing the drive? at the least, disconnect the power cable, open it back up, use a static guard wire and check that the power and data cables are not loose.
