I assume you mean a SQL expression field. These are similar to formula fields, in that they allow you to add columns to your result set. Their advantage over Crystal formulas is that the expression is processed by the server, making it faster for things like selecting and sorting.
You get an editor similar to the formula editor, but it only uses functions supported by the ODBC driver selected for the report. This allows the expression to convert directly to SQL.
It does NOT allow additional SQL statements (like a subquery). Ken Hamady
