A friend of mine bought a used computer. She wants to put Win98 on it, but still wants to keep Amipro, I think it something like Lotus, only heavy-duty. Wouldn't she like the new Office better?

AmiPro is "word processing" software bought out by Lotus Corporation and renamed "WordPro", and is part of the Lotus Office Suite". If my memory serves me correctly, AmiPro was originally a product called "Samna".

As for your friend being better off with Word, she probably will be, primarily because Word has obviously become the most-widely used word-processing software, and of course there are benefits to using software that is more commonly used by others.

This is NOT necessary to say Word is the "best". I have heard others steadfastly say that they have had extensive experience with BOTH Word and WordPerect, and that WordPerfect is superior. And others have claimed WordPro is better.

I suppose the "bottom line" is that basically, all word processing software is generally EQUAL in terms of performing basic word processing fuctions. And all have strengths and weaknesses, as you would expect.

I hope this background info has helped.

What a leading question!!!

If someone were to remove a program that you were totally comfortable with, that did everything that you wanted it to, and which you could use it with your eyes shut. In it's place they gave you something that you were absolutely unfamiliar with, needs 10 times the sytem resources, and had a learning curve that looked like Mnt. Everest. - would you be happy?

The point of this is that fitment to needs, and comfort level, must be taken into account when determining if to upgrade. One needs to ask the person involved if he/she would be happier, not the rest of the world because we are immaterial to the question. Now had you asked if WE would be happier....then that would be a different matter. :) Chris

Oh! If only I knew then what I know now.
