What happened to the IT Jobs?

I've noticed a big dip in the number of IT jobs in the New York area.

And the few jobs that are listed, I wonder how many of them are fake, especially by employment agencies.

The housing and financial industries are coming crashing down, and I'm sure a lot of IT people in those fields are being laid-off.

Has anybody else noticed this?

I've worked from home for years now. Webex and Raindance are great. I have an office, somewhere, actually 3000 miles away in Sunnyvale 3000 I think. I try to make an annual pilgrimage there.

So you mean it is ok that I am sitting at my desk/workbench wearing gym shorts, Tshirt, and athletic socks not having showered, or shaved while I bench test a new phone system next to the fireplace in my home office while I listen to some dead kennedy's cranked up loud enough not to hear my kids, and their friends play guitar hero in the other room, just because I am an evil profit pursuer?

I've been know to play guitar with the phone on mute during phonecons.

I work in the Washington DC area and work in the housing industry which is in major trouble, needless to say I am looking for new employment. I cannot believe you anyone is having issues getting interviews, jobs, etc? I am overloaded with all since week 3 of January. I must say I did not receive any calls from the last week of December to about the first week of January but I believe this is normal being around the holidays.

It all depends on the area. Some areas have a wealth of job opportunities, other areas do not. As I stated in my previous post, the Western NY area (Buffalo) is shrinking. Businesses are leaving, and with them, job opportunities are leaving. That's part of the reason why I left that area.

Well,

Looking from another point of view, there is always the option to move to India, China, Australia or Brazil, hmm Brazil not so much they also invest on US Real state, but any ways my point is that the economy on these Countries is booming and they do need qualified IT personnel and a US experience and fluency in English is always a big plus on the 3rd world.
As an example check out Skype.com they have several job in northern Europe.

The ones in Northern Europe (esp UK) have also migrated to India.

Well, I'm one of those mortgage IT people laid off in Chicago, IL. I don't see this coming back for a l-o-n-g time. So I'd like to move to something more fun with a better future. Anyone doing anything with alternative energy sources, solar or wind?
