Generally speaking, a 421 error means too many users are trying to connect/pass through/access at once. (I think it can also mean a time-out in some instances). The: mailgate02.barclays.co.uk part simply refers to the server you're trying to reach/use.
Telnet produces this error imediatly, and it will do it not matter which of the pool of barclays servers responds. They don't have problems from any other company just us. I can telnet to it fine if I use a dial up connection.
Yeah a dial up does bypass the firewall. I've been through all the firewall settings and there isn't a sausage in there that would get in the way. We don't have any problems with any other companies, just barclays
