What does "extension active" do in a vector? 1

I'm not understanding what "for extension active" do in this line in a vector. I Googled it but not finding a specific explanation.

messaging skill 123(for Modular Messaging) for extension active

You could do "for ext 1234" which would send it into the vmail for 1234.

"for ext active" sends the call into the vmail of the active vdn which sent the caller into the vector. i.e. - you may have multiple vdns going to 1 vector and the "active" would send you into different mailboxes per vdn.
