I'm relatively new to this program, and I am only 17 years old.I'm mainly using this program in conjunction with premier and illustrator to make movies with my friends. I know that you guys are professionals, however, and I am curious as to what you guys are actually doing with it. I would love to pick this kind of stuff up as only a hobby really, but I would like to get quite familiar with this program. I will soon be purchasing that Classroom in a Book series for a few programs, and I would like to know what is really most important. For me, the extent of my work has been creating a complete star wars introduction (start, crawl, pan-down) all without any guides. So, if anyone has anything they wish to say to help me along, please feel free. Thanks!

Check out a book called "Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects". After Effects is most used as a compositing/motion graphics effects tool. Bringing graphic elements together whether they be video, 3D animations and or 2D graphic artwork from Photoshop/Illustraor. There are many different uses for this extremely useful application. Digital fusion, Combustion and Shake are other programs that are along the same type. Digital fusion and Shake being among the "higher end". I haven't had a chance to use those and with After Effects, I haven't felt the need to use anything else.

To answer your question directly, I use After Effects to create animations to be used in local newscasts and to create promos for my station. Photoshop and Illustrator also come in handy.

RedCrow1973, is this as interesting a thing as it sounds? I've got a really short attention span and sometimes doing bumpers sounds exactly like the sort of thing for me.

How did you get into that sort of thing, just build a bunch on a show reel and then start hammering at local stations?

Cheers,
