When I plug in an ethernet cable into my network port, sometimes there is a green light, and sometimes the light is yellow instead.

I can't find this documented anywhere, what exactly do those colors mean?

Depending on the manufacturer, either speed or full/half duplex. There should be some documentation.

Yellow can also indicate that the port is in handshake mode.

You've got my curiousity up. You talking about a home network? Does this happen off and on to the same machine? We could use some more details. Thanks.
