I would like to replace te 5420 handsets with something newer but only te digital models we do not want to add the extra expense to run POE and do not want power supplies all over te place.

What would you suggest? Is there a digital model that provides a backlit display or maybe even color? What is the mose popular model that you find people like using and that is easy to use and program?

I am using an IP Office 500 V2 with 7.0 software.

My customers choose the 9608 over any other digital, got all except color display.
+ upgrade to R8.1/R9.0 (a bonus will be free mobile twinning for all extn)

Kind regards

Gunnar

I thougt that the 96 series has to be powered either with POE or with an external power supply?

That is correct, I mistyped:)(See correcting post)

Ok so no color I can live with tat but they do have a backlit? I thought that digital handset ( in general ) did not have backlit displays because of lack of power. The ones that I have seen with a back lit like te Partner sets always needed an extra pair to provide voltage. For example te 2420 and te 5420 do not have backlit.

It's not a flashlight, but pretty good backlight:)

You can see for yourself in this video:

By the way for clarity do you find the display to be easier to read than the 2420 and 5420? The 9508 does not seem to be very stylish, the 2420 and 5420 is a very nice looking handset, with a very lage display. I don;t mean to sound like a snob bu the 9508 kinda looks a little cheap and boxy. The problem I have had with these stand up style handsets like the CISCO or IP style is that as the user pushes the buttons the handset tends to move backward on the desk. It seem to be the angle that the buttons are pushed as with other stle handset the user is pushing more doonward twords the desk which keeps the handset in place. Sometimes I have noticed that the handset even flops back at the top if they push the buttons at the top to hard.

What is your experience? Thank you

I find the 9508 design quite good, but it's a matter of taste.
But functionality trumps cosmetics. The 9508 gives you 3x8 buttons with status indicators red/green/blank, more pleasant ringtones, and the backlight.

You can have the phone lay flat or upright, and I've never seen an adult user push it over.
It has soft rubber on the stand edges, so it stays in place.

All in all the phone is not there to look pretty or give you the weather report, but be an effective work tool[smile]

Yes and thank you for the video it was very informative. I do like the way te phone functions and the backlit makes the display really stand out. I do have clients that have comented on the style of the handset. For example if tey are in a high end sales office they tend to be very picky about how te handsets look next to their furniture.

Strange why Avaya did not just improve on the 24 and 54 series with a backlight.

If you need to impress them, there is a company in the US that will pick the phone apart and paint it in whatever colour you want, even add logo or patterns to it. (It will cost you an arm and a leg thought[smile])

Kind regards

The 9508's are great phones, they are Avaya's top of the line digital handsets. They look good in my opinion and give you the functions a phone should. Visual voice mail, contacts button that's easy to navigate and add new, history button for your call log, big backlit display etc...

Plus, with R9, distinctive ringing with hunt groups (well, 14xx can do that too, but those are garbage).
