what books or on-line resouces are good for preparing A+ exam ?

when i bought the A+ book it was for the 2006 version of the test. So back then the Offical Comptia book by sybex was pretty good. if you're willing to spend a little extra money then i recommend the CBT Nuggets video series. They know what they are talking about and it cuts out the extra stuff you don't need to know i've used them for every test i've taken along side the official book from the test maker.
