Whenever windows loads it starts several programs that I don't recognize. They are on the Close Program menu, CTRL ALT DEL. I think some of them are nessary but most of them I have no idea. Heres a list-
Explorer- I know this one is nessary
Rnaap- ?
Loadwc- ?
Point32- ?
Systray- ?
Imgicon- ?
Plus a couple others that I know are unnessary and can take care of. Could some one please tell me which of these are nessary and which ones could be removed and how?

Hi Krang.

I think 'Systray' is this box in the right corner of your taskbar (the one with the clock in it).
I wouldn't remove it.

I am afraid I can't tell you anything about the rest.

Loadwc.exe :
also known as Load WebCheck, is responsible for customizing some of the settings in Internet Explorer. Loadwc.exe is responsible for adding, removing, and updating subscriptions.
The Loadwc.exe file is located in the Windows\System folder, is installed from the Ie4_4.cab file, is 16,592 bytes in size, and is dated 9/18/97 11:28a.

Point32 :
When you disable all IntelliPoint features and then restart your computer, Point32 is loaded into memory and then unloaded. a kind of mouse tool?

Rnapp :
RNA Point-to-Point Protocol Driver ,network interface
card's driver?

SysTray:
The tray of the windows system.try look help for
"Shell_NotifyIcon" in MSDN. :)

Krang,

most of these are files that you need to use your PC apart from 2, LOADWC and IMIGCON.

RNAAP - Loaded when an internet connection is being used.
LOADWC - Unsure. Lives in WINDOWS\SYSTEM so is some Windows thing. Never appeared on my Task List
POINT32 - A program that came with your mouse to let it do more than use the two buttons and move.
SYSTRAY - Displays the icons beside your clock. You need it.
IMIGCON - Sounds like an Iomega program. Probably to do with a Click/Zip/Jazz/Ditto drive if you have one.

If you don't need IMIGCON or POINT32, they can be removed from the registry. Run REGEDIT and navigate to -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

or

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Services

You can delete programs you are sure you don't need from there. Be careful though. Best not to delete any program that lives in C:\WINDOWS or above.

Hope this helps.

Most of these "background" processes get started by Windows from the registry Run key. This is like the Startup folder, but for stuff you're not expected to monkey with. You can usually get an idea what a program is, or at least what product it supports, by looking at the following registry key:

Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Also, sometimes they are in ...\RunServices, but not in W95 I think.
