What are the vmdk files?

i have 2 files with extension vmdk that were sent to me from ny boss, i just don't know how to open them, all i know is that they are some kind of application

The Internet? is that thing still around?!!

Those are VMWare files. If you are using VMware server you can import those files and use them as a virtual server.

Yep, they are 'virtual machine' files. You should download VMWare Player (a free download) from
VMWare Player will allow you to play these files and start the virtual machine.
 
Your boss sent you a VMWare image with no instructions on what he wants you to do with it?
 
well, he sent it to me and said "i want you to try this, it's a network monitoring tool" it's called zenoss project or something. i will download the VMWare emulator
