Hi all,

Our company currently uses cognos impromtu 6.0. We have discovered (via this forum) it is not compatible with windows 2003 server.

We are licensed for 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3.

What is the best way to upgrade? I have installed 7.3 and they are completely different animals it appears.

I found documentation for upgrading 7 to 7.3 but I didn't see anything for 6 to 7.

Hi tom11011,

Unfortunately I can not give you all the information that you need however I have found that it is best to go through all the versions before you go to the latest. I have found that you can run into problems when it comes to upgrading catalogue and reports. Do a search in the Cognos forum on upgrades and versions because we have discussed some valuable information about upgrades in the past. :)

I think if u want to upgrade to the latest 7.3, u may first have to upgrade your present software to 7.0 first and then upgrade to 7.3

I have 6.6 and 7.3 running side by side without any problems. U can upgrade the 6.6 mdl files and impromptu reports, catalogs etc to 7.3 just by opening it using 7.3 Then it will ask u whether u want to upgrade it or open a read only copy. If u opt to upgrade, it will upgrade the files. Note that 7.3 is not backward compatible. Once u upgrade the files to 7.3, u won't be able to open it using your previous version.

If ur thinking abt upgrading the enterprise components, then i would recommend to go thorugh the cognos documentation on upgrading it
