I had Mobile User VPN up and running fine on my desktop connecting to my new WG 500 (step below the 700, it's brand new). I've set this up a dozen times for other people. For some reason it's giving ME grief.

I had it running at home but IP address of firewall changed. Well, the client didn't like THAT. So I created a new wgx file and imported that. It REALLY didn't like that. So I reinstall the client, reimport the wgx. Now all I get is "couldn't open [file location].wgx. Please check the filename and try again."

I've removed all references to safenet, muvpn, and watchguard from the registry before reinstalling again. Removed the deterministic network enhancer before reinstalling. I have admin privilege. I don't know what went wrong here. I get to the point where I enter my password (which I KNOW is correct, I've redone it and recreated the wgx twice now to be sure), and I get that message. Any ideas?

Thanks.

A few thoughts:

1) When removing the previous install, you did this through Add/Remove programs?

2) MUVPN install file is corrupt.

3) WGX file is corrupt.

4) Will MUVPN install file and WGX file install properly on another computer if 1-3 are "yes", "no", and "no"?

Jenlion,

Did you ever find a solution to this? I've got exactly the same problem. Also tried installing on a newly formatted W2K box, same message.

Thanks

Pete

Biggest problem with MUVPN is not disabling the safenet program before uninstalling. The big "S" needs to have a red line through it showing it is off altogether. THEN, it is OK to uninstall. Otherwise, it gets completely screwed up.

I don't remember exactly what did it, it's been awhile. Guess I should have posted it. I remember I did do these things:

*Reinstalled client
*Disabled client, then removed it (these two steps not applicable if you've got a fresh OS install)
*Wiped computer completely clean of any reference in registry, program files, etc
*Got newest version of client
*Rebuilt config file (even though it worked great on another computer)

If you've got a fresh OS and fresh MUVPN client install that is rejecting a config file that works on another computer, first thing I'd have to do is make sure caps lock isn't on :)

I did eventually get it back up and running. Wish I could remember exactly what did it!!! Good luck.

Cured it! The .wgx file was on a CD, when I copied it over to C:\ it retained the Read-only bit. Cleared read only, all fine now! (Except it's on the same box as a Checkpoint and a Cisco VPN client, and doesn't run properly if the Cisco service is running, but that's another story!)

Thanks anyway

Pete

Hey, great. Good call.

My fiance and I share a laptop. He uses Contivity, and it does not work if the safenet service is running.

I set the startup type to disabled, and added a logon script for my login for net start safenet service (or whatever it was called, "Safenet IKE" I think). He has to reboot the computer before he can use his VPN again, but it's worked great for us.

Usually stopping the services helps VPN clients play better together.....
