I installed 98 se on this brand new wd 30 gig hard drive. Runs great, however it says the drive only has the compacity of 4 gigs. I have went into fdisk and there is only one partition, can't make a new one because it is full. If I go into the bios and look at the master drive (only have one drive) it shows 30 gig... Out of ideas...

in fdisk you should be able to create an extended partition. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

I tried this last night and still having the same result..

Is it possible that you are using some really old boot disk with a version of Fdisk that doesn't have FAT32 capability? I'm not even sure if that could cause this sort of problem, it's just an idea i came up with.

I somehow overlooked the auto setting in the bios for the hd it was set at 4 gigs....

dugan76 - Thank you for humbling yourself by coming back and posting the solution to the problem.
It is a reminder to us all, when doing troubleshooting,
CHECK THE BASICS FIRST.........
It saves LOTS of time.
Thanks again.
