Okay, I was playin Call Of Duty 2 and my comp. crashed.

When I rebooted, it said I needed to reinstall my HAL file.

How in the world do I do that? I know this is a simple question but I really need help, finals are coming soon and I need it up and running ASAP!

Thanks in Advance!

The only system this key has been installed on is my other HDD (which is on this computer)

You shouldn't have to rebuy anything. Windows Product Activation (WPA) looks at several key components (hard drive, CPU, network card, etc) during activation. As long as you don't change too many, you can easily reactivate Windows over the internet after reinstalling.

In the cases where you do change too much of the hardware, a phone call to Microsoft is all that's needed. I've never had an issue or heard of one. In fact these days, it seems like they don't even care to hear an explanation. They give out the confirmation code with almost no effort on your part.

The other software you've referred to should be no different...

I have had to reinstall Windows SBS 2003 a few times as I broke my server. Worse case, you have to call Micro$oft to get a new activation code. Not a real big deal and the Indian accents are hardly noticable.
