OK I'll introduce my self. I'm Judy and I live in Virginia Beach, VA and work in Chesapeake as a data analyst. I think the origin of my handle is fairly self explanatory. I wanted something to indicate that I was interested in SQL without sounding too much like an expert since I was brand new to SQL Server at the time I registered.

I've done lots of things through the years. I was a manpower specialist for the Navy, I was a writer-editor, I was a sewer planner, computer instructor, Access programmer, efficiency expert, etc. Someday I plan to be paid to create art. I like fractals, Firefly, books, horses, art museums. and data. I live with my boyfriend of 24 years and our crazy dog.

SQLSister,

I have a colleague that also lived with her boyfriend for just about that same number of years as your relationship. He and she, both, were Oracle Database Administrators. She finally left him, citing as her reasons that he was "two-phased and afraid to COMMIT."[rofl]

Thanks everyone. The FAQ has been updated to include entries for our new members, and to update SQLSister's entry.

Again, thanks, and welcome.

SantaMufasa - That's bad. If it happens again, I'm going to have to rollback the thread.

Sql Sister and Santa Mufasa

My previous boyfriend (of 9 years, at the time) is an Oracle DBA. At the time I was a Sql Server developer. We had "my RDBMS is better than yours" arguments. Okay, we weren't serious, but still - how sad is that!!

Okay! Okay! I'll talk!

Name: Michael Wells

Location: Charlotte, NC

Age: 0.5 century

Status: married (again), no kids (this time)

Animals: We have two dogs - Tobey, a 3-y.o. Aussie Shephard mix rescued from a kill shelter by my wife and Gibson, a 2 y.o. border collie mix who adopted me while I was on a trip to PetSmart. Gibson's more mentally disturbed than I am, which has really helped me move up the food chain in our house. And we have two cats who have moved into a room on the other side of the house because they don't like being herded...

Work: IT Consultant: Jack of Some Trades, Master of (what do YOU need today?)

Programming: Got started in the biz writing macros in Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheets back in the pre-MS days. Was absorbed into an IT dept. in the early 90's and, with VB2 & SQL Server (what was it back then? Version 0.1?) in hand, was turned loose on an unsuspecting user community. Many versions, projects, and companies later, I'm contracting at BigBankX doing mostly SQL Server stuff -- SPs & DTS mostly -- and I can't say I really miss the webby/GUI stuff.

Other stuff: I'm a middle-class, male, white, Anglo-Saxon Protestant who was brought into this world by parents having much the same qualities. And like so many others of that caliber, I have my own share of hopes, dreams, and fears, both real and imagined. I've been through a lot, and most of it was my fault!

And finally: God help me - we just bought a boat!

Yeah, I heard that. I also heard:

You know what "boat" stands for? B-reak O-ut A-nother T-housand

But my wife's happy for the moment, which means...

Happy weekend!

I had no idea there was one of these! Oh boy oh boy! I just LOVE introductions.

I'm Sarah. I'm 21. I'm going to school to be a computer programmer. I'm going to be a missionary, so we'll wait and see how well those two fit together. Sadly, I was born in the wrong decade. I shoulda beena hippie. I'm 4'10" and that is very short.

I'm going to go post in all the right places now.

Sarah
-don't panic, I'm mostly harmless-

Apparently this IS the right places.

Sarahnade(n):
1.I love to sing, all the time. Sarah + serenade
2.I'm small but slightly explosive. Sarah + grenade
3.Me, if I were a juice. Sarah + lemonade

I'm from Austin, Texas. Also College Station where I attend Texas A&M University (WHOOP!). The languages I use are C and Java (cause that's what they taught us) and I know enough SQL to get me by.

Sarah,

You are the same height as my daughter that just married a returned missionary. (She actually loves being short.)

Where do you plan on being a missionary? For which denomination? When do you plan on serving?

Well, MY plan (waiting to see what His plan is) is to go into the work force for maybe a year or so to pay off my student loans, so I'm not in debt when I start asking for money.

I've always been interested in Wycliff Bible Translators. I love languages. (I wish I had the time to learn every language in the world.) And Wycliff uses computer programming in a lot of their translation process.

OR, I would also love to move to a country where the computer industry is growing (or large already) and just get a regular job there. (The whole tent making idea you know?) I recently went to China on a mission trip, so I'd love to go back to an East Asian country.

PS. I also love being short

*deep breath* Hokay....

I have the most unoriginal, pedestrian handle:

LEFT(first_name,4)+LEFT(last_name,4)

I'm camped out in the greater Niagara region, 26 clicks NE of Buffalo, NY.

I'm a de-facto SQL Server DBA, Sharepoint nanny, Web application provider, and .NET dabbler for a manufacturer of thermal transfer ribbons. Exciting stuff, that.

Edu-macation: A degree from Cal State San Bernardino in "Liberal Studies". (Far from fries-with-that; it's pre-teaching. But I'd kill the upstart, smart-@$$ little buggers, so nix on the classroom gig.)

In the database world since dBASE II. In the Web space since CF 3.0 (<.) (Well, first I wrote HTML generators in Fox 2.6 back in 1992, but that's another story.)

Part-time musician, billiards aficionado, softball player, and deck designer.

OK, enough, already. Dam glad to meet you.
