I have a welcome page set up showing the mail "Inbox." I do not want it to have the search bar shown.

In the Mail view of the same database, I want to search the "Inbox."

When I choose "Search this view" on either the Welcome page or the mail database, for a few minutes they stay different, but then they eventually inherit the setting of the other view.

I want the two views to remain seperate.

I doubt that you will be able to maintain separation. Both the browser and the Client are looking at the same design element. If parameter modifications are possible, those modifications are inscribed into the design element, not the UI that is being used.

So when the welcome page is built, it uses the same template as the regular mail database?

What about seperate templates? Note that both the Welcome Page (R6) and the Mail view are in Notes.

You have only one mail database, independant of however many means you may have of opening it. As you are talking about the Inbox, and searching the Inbox, you are talking about a functionality of your mail database, not of your Welcome Page.
The Welcome Page has its own template.

Forgive me, I have only about a year's experience with Lotus notes. I don't think I'm explaining the situation well.

I have two ways I view my mail database. The first and most obvious it through a mail file, with the folders on the left, a preview pane, and list of messages. This is the view I like to search (as with my archive) because it usually has a lot of messages in it.

The second way is on my Welcome Page. I have a mini-mail view on the top of the page and the company directory on the bottom. This mini-mail view is the one I do NOT want to search.

HOWEVER, when I uncheck "Search this view" on my Welcome Page, eventually the regular mail view loses it's "Search this view" setting. Once I re-check the "Search this view" in my main, eventually the Welcome Page inherits that setting.

What confuses me is this: if the two views are exclusive, why do they inherit the other's setting? and id they are inclusive, why does this work initially, only to change randomly later on?

Is there a setting to use that keeps the views from migrating their settings?

Thanks, Pascal, et al.

Lach

Why do you say the views are exclusive ? I repeat, you are toggling a search on your Inbox. Therefor, you are not modifying a property of the Welcome db, but of your Inbox.
What you call the "mini-mail view" is your Inbox, nothing else. It is appearing in the Welcome Page because the Welcome Page is a frameset with a frame dedicated to showing the Inbox of your mailbox. So, when you toggle search options in the Welcome Page, you are still changing properties of your Inbox.

Now, when you say that the change is random, that is interesting. Does that mean that sometimes you can deactivate the Search in the Inbox and it doesn't "show" in the Welcome Page (or vice-versa) ?
I think you will find that such a situation only happens when you have both the Welcome Page and the Inbox open. Since you always have the Welcome Page open (normally), that means more specifically that such "randomness" occurs only when your Inbox is open. That is because bth items are active, and not refreshing automatically.
I suggest that you make a test : start your Notes, watch the Welcome Page open and then open your Inbox. Note that the search bar option is identical in both views (it has to be). Toggle the search option in the Inbox, and close the view. You should note that the Welcome page has not changed. Close Notes. Restart, and note that the Welcome page search option is now again identical to the Inbox. The Welcome Page has been refreshed.

I think this is how it should happen. The changes only appear to be random. Actually it is a question of view refresh.

Merry XMas,

pmonett, thank you for your explaination. Your test proved it to be absolutely correct.

So I gather that it is not possible to search one view and not the other? They are the same view?

The frameset example helped me understand.
