Hello All,
I've been using WinSPM 5.0 lately because I've never gotten anything higher than that to work. I can log in fine with 5, but after upgrading from there to 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 I can't get in. It'll dial (I'm using a modem) and get to the point where 5 would ask for a password, but then stop. It says Enter Password down on the status bar next to the abort button, but the dialog box to enter the password in never appears. It'll use 90% of my CPU and I end up having to end task to get back out. I'm sure I'm missing something stupid, but any hints? Thanks!

You may have to reinstall WinSPM - sounds like something got corrupted - or - you did not reset up your modem configuration to match your operating system software in the latest version.

That's the weird part. I've taken everything back off a couple of times. After I install 5, it all works fine & connects up, but as soon as I upgrade it quits giving me the password prompt. What all does 9 do that 5 doesn't?

Yours does seem a weird problem.

Have you tried to find out exactly when the problem begins to appear as you apply the updates? In other words, checking after installing v6 then again after installing v7, etc?

Perhaps in approaching the problem in this way, you can isolate a given upgrade step and examine where things might be going wrong at that point.

I don't have a URL for you, but I seem to recall that there was also a registry file (winspm6-7.reg) which needed to be installed for the version 6 to 7 step. Did you do that?

It happens as soon as I bump up to 6. I did have to do the .reg fix to get 7 to go, but 7, 8, & 9 all do the same thing. Take it off, go back to 5, it's fine. I'm bamboozled. I'll try it on another system later & let you know how it goes.

If you are using XP, I would suspect a conflict between your MODEM Drivers and XP.

But then again, I think WINSPM is a DOG anyway.

With my KNOWN WORKING LUCENT WINMODEM, and my KNOWN WORKING XP machine, I still have problems at times to where I have to disconnect the LINE from the Modem Manually. Also, I have issues with WINSPM(9) that causes me to have to re-boot my PC as well.

I even had one problem where I got "KICKED OUT" of a clients Legend/Magix due to line hits or something. I didn't care 'cause I was done with the programming. (I made sure my Modem Was disconnected too!)

AND THEN, a couple of hours later, the client called and said:

"Our phone system has been dead since you dialed in.....".

Go Figure.....

Do you have a different modem you can try?
